Happy holidays, everyone! It’s a rare occurrence when both Hanukkah and Christmas fall on the same day, but this year, that’s exactly what we have – and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas, and happy Last Day of Hanukkah! Whatever you’re celebrating today, I hope it will be a joyous time spent with your loved ones (whether family or not) and full of warmth, laughter, and even a few awkward moments.
Like this. That’s me being awkward.
We are spending the days between Christmas and New Year’s in the cold, wind-kissed prairie of Winnipeg, gorging ourselves on mulled wine (recipe coming on New Year’s!), pierogies and shortbread cookies. There will be baby-playing time, and nights spent in bars, and nights spent falling asleep on the couch at 9:30 p.m., social obligations be damned (sorry, everyone I bailed on yesterday!). There will be blog work (of course), photography, and presents. There will be a great mix of Ukrainian, British, Icelandic, and event a bit of Russian and Jewish food.
And there will be love.
I’ll leave you with a few more gratuitous shots of myself, taken at a recent Hanukkah event by the Wandering Chew and Roots and Recipes,, two great food organizations active in Montreal. Because that’s what I do when I’ve been too busy drinking negronis and eating pizza on the couch to prep a post (just kidding, this was always my intention. Ahem.)
Happy holidays – and I’ll see you on Friday!
