Friends, dear readers, mom. I am so excited. I am over the moon with joy. I am giddy with anticipation. I am running out of euphemisms, so I’ll just say it straight: I am happy. (warning: this post is going to get a little personal. So if you’re only here for delicious food, check out the archives).
There are many reasons to be bursting with joy on this beautiful May day.
First, the sun is shining and Montreal is experiencing a glorious, perfectly balanced 26C (79F for you Americans) degree weather.
Second, I just found yesterday that I am getting a pretty significant promotion at work that will see me working on something I love, for a community that I have been proud to call home for over 12 years.
Third, also yesterday came the revelation that I will be part of the first-ever JDC Entwine delegation for Russian-speaking Jewish young professionals… to Argentina! This August, I will spend a week volunteering in different community organizations in Mar del Plata and Buenos Aires, getting to know other amazing Russian-speaking people from all across the U.S. and Canada, and learning more about the unique Jewish population in Argentina. And you can bet there’s going to be a lot of great food involved. (As this is a volunteer mission, there is still a significant personal participation in the cost; I will be holding an Argentinian Jewish barbeque in Montreal to help offset some of the costs, so if you are interested in helping me go paint some schools and take part in occupational therapy classes with elderly citizens, I will post more information about this and other opportunities to donate in upcoming weeks).
And finally, and more immediately, I will spend this weekend packing suitcases and buying last-minute gifts for my family, who I will be going to see in ISRAELI on Tuesday!!! I can hardly believe that in four days, Greg and I will be wiping fresh, handmade hummus off a large plate with a generous helping of harissa in some local Beer Sheva restaurant. Based on my previous family vacations in Israel, you can bet I’m just a little bit excited. It’s going to be epic.
And if all that wasn’t enough, Greg and I will also spend a week at the end of our vacation travelling across Germany. We will spend most of our time in Berlin, because it’s awesome, but we also have a day or two in Munich and Frankfurt.
So dear readers, if you have any favourite culinary (or otherwise) ideas for:
And you can bet I’ll be sharing all of my experiences with you through this space, and more immediately on social media.
So yes, friends, I am truly happy.
