That story made me smile, Terry :) Thanks for sharing this!!! As for the garlic and rosemary, you wouldn't cook chicken parts as long as a chicken, usually 35-40 minutes, so I usually just hide them around the parts and then discard the branches that are burnt.

I will happily eat a drumstick for you!

In the narrative, you said chicken parts could also be used, and that's what I generally have on hand. That being said - what do I do (politely, please ) with the rosemary and garlic cloves? I expect they'd burn, without the moisture provided inside the cavity of a whole chicken?

In our house we didn't fight over drumsticks - it was gizzards! Dad always got half - the other half was up for grabs. Being the oldest child, I always called dibs - meanie that I was in my younger teen days. My baby sis, who was 7 years younger, decided one day she "wasn't having none of that". She stole the gizzard off the platter while the turkey was resting, locked herself in the bathroom, and ate the entire thing! Otherwise occupied, nobody noticed until it was time to carve the bird. Mom called dad a gizzard thief. He loudly proclaimed his innocence. But one look at my little sis's face told the story. Dad and I guilt tripped her for the next few days, bemoaning the fact that it sure would have been nice to have our gizzard - all with a bit of theatrics thrown in, so that she knew we weren't really, REALLY mad at her. For the next year, whenever we had turkey or roast chicken - dad and I took turns being Gizzard Guardians - always on the lookout for the thief - accompanied by much whispering and muffled laughter. Bittersweet memory - they're all gone now

So… I had my own melt down when I practically shaved my head and turned my hair bright red! My daughters were so embarrassed. It’s just hair!
Great looking chicken. I like the mayo-paprika paste idea.
