Making A Sourdough Starter

BREAD

There's nothing quite like a fresh loaf of sourdough bread. Making a homemade sourdough starter without yeast is simple. Here's how:

INGREDIENTS - Unbleached all-purpose flour - Water and preferably non-chlorinated fresh water

DAY 1

Combine ½ cup water and ¼ cup unbleached all-purpose flour in a glass jar. Mix well. The mixture will be thick.

DAY 2

No nothing. Relax!

DAY 3

Notice a dark liquid (hooch) on top. This smell is normal. Scoop out half the mixture and discard or use for recipes. Add ½ cup flour and ¼ cup water. Stir well.

DAY 4

Repeat feeding process daily. Discard half the mixture, then add ½ cup flour and ¼ cup water. Stir well.

DAY 5

Starter should be bubbly, double in size, and fluffy. If not, continue feeding until ready.

DAY 6

Once ready, transfer starter to a fresh jar.
