With G's parents visiting town, a new job and a new apartment, I haven't had time to cook, let alone blog. But in the efforts of keeping you satiated At the Immigrant's Table, I would like to present you with a small glimpse of our trip to Germany, wordless.

Without annotations or recommendations just yet, here's a peek into the days we spent exploring Frankfurt, Munich, and of course, Berlin.

More Fish

  • Thin slices of cured salmon, seasoned with dill, are artfully arranged on a white plate. The orange-pink hues of this easy gravlax salmon contrast beautifully with the green flecks of herbs, boasting a texture that appears soft and oily.

  • Slices of raw tuna and Russian cured salmon sit elegantly on a wooden cutting board. The light pink hues of the fish with visible marbling contrast beautifully, each cut into uniform pieces. The board's natural grain pattern adds a rustic touch, ready for culinary preparation.

Ohhh the croissant looks scrumptious!! It reminds me of romanian sweet walnut bread!

Also love how sharp your images turn out! What camera and lens do you use?

Tell me more about Romanian sweet walnut bread, Lois!! I need this in my life.

I take most of my images with my trusty Canon T3 and either a 50mm 1.8 lens, or a new, spiffy 17-40mm zoom lens I just bought that is just incredible. One day, I hope to upgrade to a full-frame camera and some prime 35mm lens, and the 1.4f 50mm... But in the meantime, I'm happy with what I've got!

          Hi Ksenia,

Thank you for your nice reply! My sister makes the sweet walnut bread it every year for Christmas, and sometimes for Easter. Actually I think you may be familiar with it too. There are different versions of it among many Eastern European countries and I think Russia too? My sister made a short video tutorial on how to make the walnut bread and put the recipe on her blog here https://heritageofgrace.wordpress.com/2014/12/19/simply-swap-favorite-christmas-recipe/
But our secret to making it stand out is to put a lot of rum essence in the batter and the filling. Oh my, it's delicious!

          Enjoy!

I love it! Your sister is so cute, and the bread looks amazing. The video is clear, and her instructions very easy to follow. It reminds me of Babka, which is a European-Jewish sweet bread. So yes, definitely similar 🙂
